Laura’s Paintings

Movement is the main focus of Laura’s paintings - movement of light, of figures, of sails and sailing boats, of dancers, of musicians playing their instruments. By using layers of paint to build up the depth of colour, texture and form, she creates fluidity and delicacy within each unique piece of work.

An enduring love of music and dance, coupled with the captivating sense of drama and atmosphere of the theatre, continue to inspire her images of dancing figures and performers. The repetitious shapes and patterns made by the performers display a rhythmic energy and dynamic intensity. In her more recent paintings of buildings Laura has used line and perspective to develop an impression of the way the light moves around and across the structures, creating a sense of atmosphere and character.
